Cedric is a reclusive sorcerer who was taken in by Grimtrix the Good many years ago, now living within the confines of Hexley Hall and never daring to venture beyond the school grounds. When a newly recruited student named Sofia begins attending the school, Cedric is immediately drawn to her for some reason. In addition, there is a dark secret lurking below the surface of the pristine magical school's exterior: students are getting severely injured, and some have even perished. When Sofia appears to become a target, Cedric will do anything he can to protect her while also trying to solve the mystery of what is happening to the other students.

On their wedding night, Cedric and Sofia finally share the most beautiful and intimate experience they have only ever dreamed of, and two finally become one at last.
On Wassailia Eve, after the children are all asleep, Cedric confesses to Sofia that he hasn't gotten her a gift this year due to all the chaos. Sofia echoes the comment, assuring him that she has all she needs. Wanting to adhere to some form of tradition anyway, Cedric gives Sofia a different kind of gift: one delicately planned and best unwrapped behind closed doors. (Post Segue)
During a trip to the Mystic Isles to visit Chrysta and the other Protectors, Cedric and Sofia run into Butterford, who seems to be having a really hard time with something neither he nor the couple could have expected.
On Cedric's birthday, Sofia takes him to a secluded location to celebrate. After all, there are so many new things to celebrate with the turn of the New Year, and she can't wait to share each new thing with him.
Cedric is feeling a bit anxious after he receives a poor health report from the medic, since he collapsed during a meeting with Roland and other royal leaders and royal sorcerers. To help keep him calm and get him to rest, Sofia works her own magic on him.
When Sofia hears that Butterford is by himself due to Muscles and the other pirates going on a mission, she invites him to go with her and Cedric to a bazaar. There, an oracle issues a warning to them about Sofia, worrying the couple. However, Butterford is suspicious of the prophecy and intends to get to the bottom of things to help his dear friends.
A group known as the Tainted Ten infiltrate the Mystic Isles and start wreaking havoc that Cedric, Sofia, Chrysta, and several others have to halt. Butterford stops by the Enchancian castle when a grand ball is going on, surprising Sofia and Cedric with an invitation to his upcoming wedding to Muscles. When he’s invited to stay, he catches the eye of a young prince who has no idea of Butterford’s identity, leading to some interesting moments.

An evil enigmatic being known as The Ninth Star was once in a group known as the Nefarious Nine, all of whom were destroyed. The sole survivor of the attack, The Ninth Star takes up residence in a new host, and he/she has now been tracked down to Valestrai, where there are nine powerful magic wielders under investigation. Sofia and company are called in to help question the suspects, but nothing could have prepared them for the outcome when the mystery begins to unravel. *Takes place two years after The Tainted Ten*
Sofia, exhausted after giving birth to Charlie only a month ago, glimpses her reflection in a mirror one night and is startled by what she sees. Meanwhile, Nana has discovered her Aunt Amber’s makeup and decides to make use of it, while Violet frets over her appearance for the upcoming Wassailia ball. (Fluff, sweetness, and a bit of humor abound.)
Amber can't sleep, especially with her nerves about her impending wedding overwhelming her. Thankfully, she's not the only one up at midnight. (Takes place before "Heartsong.")
