Jastin "Jas" Butterford returns in this story as not only Sofia's friend, but also her arisen Guardian. As told in the second chapter of "Prophetic," Delphine (the Oracle) knew of Butterford's desire to help protect Sofia and to demonstrate his sincere gratitude for changing his life for the better. Now gifted with new healing and intuitive powers, he accompanies Sofia whenever she steps into dangerous situations and is her layer of defense between life and death.

Fun fact: Per the final chapter of The Tainted Ten, Butterford admits that, in another life, he would have probably fallen in love with Sofia. As it stands, he loves her as a friend and respects her greatly.
